It began to support the children of three towns (Tákos, Csaroda, Hetefejércse), and helped them directly and also through the local kindergartens. It participated in the organization of Children’s Day and Santa Claus programs, and regularly aided them with the help of the Johanniter in Hamburg with necessary school equipment, sweets and toys. Along the organization of aid shipments the local group actively participated in the central activities of the Johanniter, and supported the central aid to establish a Reformed School in Mátészalka. They transported the first blackboard, benches and 25 computers for the school. The group regularly supports this institution as well as 6 kindergartens and a nursery school with school equipment and toys from Hamburg. Therefore local children institutions view the Mátészalka Johanniter group as one of their main supporters. The group had its largest venture so far in 2004: the construction of a playground in Mátészalka, which was supported by the Johanniter in Hamburg, the head organization of the Hungarian Johanniter, 3 social foundations, and 31 local entrepreneurs with their donations and their work. Furthermore, the group also extends regular aid to the Regional Hospital in Mátészalka with multifunctional hospital beds, other hospital equipment, and beddings from the Hamburg aid shipments.
